Lactic acid at the cleansing stage performs gentle daily exfoliation that serves a specific purpose in a brightening routine: it removes the layer of dull, pigmented surface cells at every wash, allowing your brightening actives to absorb more effectively and work at the right depth. Aloe ensures this mild exfoliation never tips into irritation - the kind of inflammation that can actually worsen pigmentation.
Tip: Use morning and evening. The lactic acid in this cleanser works subtly but cumulatively - it's laying the groundwork for the stronger actives that follow.
Step 2 Brighten AM
Vitamin C (2%) & Ferulic Radiance Serum | $50
Vitamin C is the most researched brightening ingredient in skincare. It works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which drives melanin production - reducing both the formation of new dark spots and the intensity of existing ones. Ferulic acid serves two purposes here: it stabilises the vitamin C (which degrades quickly without protection) and amplifies its efficacy. This combination is the gold standard in brightening serums. Apply every morning before moisturiser.
Tip: Apply to clean, dry skin before any other products and allow 60 seconds to absorb. Vitamin C is most effective when it has direct contact with skin rather than sitting on top of other layers.
Step 3 Moisturize & Brighten AM

Kojic acid is derived from fermented rice and is one of the most effective natural alternatives to hydroquinone for fading dark spots. It inhibits melanin production through a different biological pathway than vitamin C - meaning the two work synergistically when used together in the same routine. This brightening moisturiser delivers ongoing fading action throughout the day while keeping skin comfortably hydrated. Layer directly over your vitamin C serum.
Tip: Don't expect instant results with brightening ingredients - melanin fading is a gradual process. Photograph your dark spots at the start of the routine and compare at six and ten weeks for an accurate read on progress. (Always apply a lightweight SPF30+ sunscreen after your AM moisturize).
Step 4 Target PM
Kojic Acid (1%) Dark Spot Correcting Serum | $44
Night is when skin cell turnover peaks - which makes the evening the most effective time for targeted brightening treatment. This concentrated serum delivers Kojic acid directly to areas of hyperpigmentation at its highest potency, working in alignment with the skin's natural nocturnal repair cycle. Apply directly to spots, age marks, and post-blemish areas after cleansing.

Step 5 Renew PM, 1–2 times per week
Lactic Acid (10%) Skin Renewal Concentrate | $42
Once or twice a week in the evening, this 10% lactic acid concentrate performs a deeper renewal - accelerating the rate at which pigmented skin cells turn over and are replaced by newer, more evenly-toned ones. Apply to clean, dry skin, leave for ten minutes, then rinse thoroughly before continuing with the rest of your evening routine. This is your accelerator: used consistently, it shortens the timeline to visible results.
Tip: Begin with once a week for the first month. If skin tolerates it well with no sensitivity, increase to twice weekly. Never use on the same evening as other active treatments.
What to Expect
In weeks one and two, overall radiance improves noticeably as the lactic acid cleansing and vitamin C serum clear dull surface cells. Dark spots themselves take longer - melanin fading is a biological process that cannot be rushed, but it can be accelerated.
